The short version. FuelSA has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers, and it never asks who you are. Your location is used on your own device only and is never sent to us or stored. Your saved stations stay on your device. If you turn on price alerts in the app, our server keeps what it needs to send them - the alerts themselves and the notification address Apple gives your device - and nothing else, as described in section 2a. The site talks to two outside services and no others: a map-tile provider, in section 7, and the service that delivers the contact form, in section 6 - and that one only if you write to us.
1. Who we are
FuelSA is published by Perspective Global Pty Ltd (ACN 697 873 368) (“we”, “us”), an Australian company, and developed by Hayden Kong. This policy explains how the FuelSA website at fuelsa.haydenkong.com and the FuelSA app for iOS handle information. We handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

2. Information we collect
We do not ask who you are. There is no sign-up, no login and no user profile, on the website or in the app. We do not operate analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting services, and there are no third-party tracking SDKs or scripts. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and we do not sell or share personal information.
There are two exceptions, and both only happen if you choose them. The contact form asks for your email address and your message, and optionally a name; we receive exactly what you type and use it only to answer you, as described in section 6. And price alerts in the app, described next, store what is needed to send your notifications.
2a. Price alerts in the app
Price alerts are optional. If you create one and allow notifications, the app sends our server:
- the notification address (“device token”) that Apple assigns to FuelSA on your device, which is how a notification reaches you;
- your alerts: the fuel, the stations or suburb they are about, and any target price;
- whether you want quiet hours, the tank size used to work out a fill-up’s cost, and the app version;
- a one-way hash of a random key the app makes up and keeps in your device’s Keychain. It stands in for an account: it lets your device update or delete its own alerts, and it is not derived from anything about you or your device.
We also record when each alert last sent a notification, so none is repeated. We use this information only to check your alerts against new prices and send the notifications you asked for. It is not linked to your name, email address, location or any account, and it is never used for advertising or shared. The stations and suburbs in your alerts can suggest the places you buy fuel, which is why the app never sends your location with them.
Notifications are delivered by Apple’s Apple Push Notification service, which receives the device token and the text of each notification. Apple’s handling of that is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. If you never create an alert, or never allow notifications, nothing in this section is sent anywhere.
3. Information stored on your device
Some information is stored locally on your device. Apart from price alerts, it stays there and is not transmitted to us, and all of it is removed from your device when you delete the app.

4. Location
On the website, the “centre on my location” button asks your browser for your coordinates. The coordinate is used in the page to move the map and nothing else: it is not sent to our server, not attached to any request, and not stored. If you never press the button, it is never requested.
The app asks for “while using the app” location access. Location is used for two things only: centring the map, and working out how far each station is from you, which is how nearby stations are ranked. The calculation happens entirely on your device.
Your location is never sent to us, never attached to a request for fuel prices, and never stored as a history. FuelSA does not request background or “always” location access.
You can refuse or withdraw location access at any time - in your browser’s site settings for the website, or in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › FuelSA on iOS. Both remain fully usable without it; you simply will not see distances or an automatically centred map.
5. Services FuelSA connects to
The app makes network requests to the places below. None of them includes your name or your location.
FuelSA’s own server
The app gets fuel prices, station details and price history from fuelsa.haydenkong.com, the same service behind this website, which collects them from the official South Australian Fuel Pricing Information Scheme operated for the Government of South Australia. Requests for prices ask for the South Australian data set as a whole, or for a station or fuel you are looking at; they do not describe you or where you are. The only other thing the app sends here is your price alerts, if you turn them on, as described in section 2a. Versions of the app before 2.0 requested prices from the scheme’s own API directly. See the scheme’s publisher information for details of that service. As with any internet request, a server can see the IP address a request came from; this server is hosted by Vercel, described in section 6.
Apple Maps (iOS app only)
In the app, maps and the optional phone number and website shown on a station page come from Apple’s MapKit services, which are built into iOS. Apple’s handling of that data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. FuelSA does not receive a copy of anything Apple collects.
6. This website
fuelsa.haydenkong.com is hosted by Vercel Inc. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and embeds no third-party trackers. Like any web host, Vercel processes standard server request data (including IP address and browser user agent) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Vercel’s privacy policy.
The contact form
The form at fuelsa.haydenkong.com/contact is the only place on the site that asks you for anything. Nothing is sent until you press send, and nothing you type is stored in your browser or on this site.
Submissions are delivered by the form service at forms.pixelverse.tech. It receives what you typed - your email address, your message, the topic you chose, and a name if you gave one - along with the request data any web server sees, including your IP address, which it uses to limit how often the form can be submitted. It sets no cookie and nothing loads from it unless you actually send a message.
7. Map tiles on the website
The map on this website is drawn with MapLibre, which runs in your browser, over a background map (“tiles”) served by OpenFreeMap and built from OpenStreetMap data. Apart from sending a contact form, this is the only third-party request the website makes, and it is the only one that happens without you asking for it.
Your browser fetches those tiles directly, so OpenFreeMap receives what any web server receives from a request: your IP address, your browser user agent, and which tiles were asked for. Tiles are requested for the area of the map you are looking at, which is not your location - the map opens on Adelaide for everyone, and moves only when you move it. No cookie is set, no identifier is sent, and we receive nothing back from OpenFreeMap. Their handling is governed by OpenFreeMap’s privacy policy.
Every other page on the site loads nothing from a third party, and a strict Content Security Policy blocks any request to an origin other than this one, the tile server and the contact form endpoint.
8. Children
FuelSA is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not ask anyone who they are, including children.
9. How long information is kept
We hold no account or profile for anyone who uses the site or the app. Cached data, saved stations and settings live on your device and are removed when you delete the app or clear its data.
Price alert information is kept while you have alerts. Deleting your last alert in the app deletes this device’s registration from our server, alerts included. It is also deleted automatically if Apple tells us the device token no longer works, as it does once the app has been removed, and if the app has not checked in for 180 days. Messages sent through the contact form are kept only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry and to keep a record of it.
10. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you. In practice this would only ever be support correspondence or price alerts, and you can see, change or delete your alerts in the app at any time. Ask through the contact form and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
11. Security
All network requests made by FuelSA use HTTPS. The only user data on our servers is price alert information, which is keyed to a one-way hash of a random key rather than to a person, so it cannot be used to act as your device or to work out who you are.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new “last updated” date. Material changes affecting how information is handled will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
